Our Organization

HIL Governance

Humedica International Lanka (HIL) operates as the local sister organization of humedica e.V., Germany, while functioning as an independently registered national NGO in Sri Lanka.

HIL is governed by a five-member Board of Directors, which provides strategic oversight and holds the organization’s management, including the CEO, accountable in accordance with its constitution and local regulatory requirements.

At the same time, HIL benefits from international guidance, technical collaboration, and shared humanitarian standards drawn from the expertise of humedica e.V.’s advisory and supervisory boards based in Kaufbeuren, Germany. This relationship strengthens HIL’s governance, accountability, and program quality while preserving its operational autonomy.

Partners

Collaboration with Local Government

humedica International Lanka works closely with sectoral ministries and government authorities to ensure its programs align with national priorities and community needs. This includes collaboration with the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), where former Director Mr. Sugath Dissanayake supported DRR training to strengthen preparedness and response capacity. HIL also partners with the Ministry of Health and the Rural Health Development Sector to facilitate health interventions in rural areas, including Badulla District.

Community Involvement

Localization and inclusivity are central to HIL’s approach. Through whole-of-community training, HIL strengthens awareness on health, nutrition, and substance abuse prevention. In Uva Province, mental health initiatives are delivered in partnership with Samanala Piyasa and Suwadiwi Piyasa, combining psychosocial support with recreational therapy and skills development. HIL’s mobile health clinics also serve underserved populations through trusted community spaces such as Samata Sarana, which provides care for the elderly and support for underprivileged children.

Local Partnerships

HIL collaborates with a wide range of Sri Lankan partners to enhance reach and sustainability:

  • Corporate Sector: Hayleys Group (First Responder Training and DRR).
  • Community Faith-Based Institutions: Samata Sarana.
  • Academic Institutions: Supporting research and technical training.
  • Mental Health Centers: Samanala Piyasa and Suwadiwi Piyasa.
